Dual Fiber Switch
The Dual Fiber Switch is a linear ball bearing device made from dimensionally stable aluminum jig plate. It has a small SS bat handle readily moved by finger pressure to precisely position one or the other of two fiberoptics to the focal point in a Scrambler Module. The DFS is also available in a motorized version driven by a linear step motor. The DFS is also available in a computer controlled version that allows rapid switching from one fiberoptic to the other (see Custom Illumination System). The DFS makes it possible to use one arc lamp to illuminate two fiberoptics and Output Modules, each connected to a port on the same or on different microscopes. Alternately, two lamphouses of different wavelengths can illuminate one microscope port. One researcher utilizes two light sources, two microscopes, and four Dual Fiber Switches for complete flexibility. The DFS may also be used in custom systems for positioning other small components. |
