VE-DIC of mitotic newt lung epithelial cells:
at low (A) and high magnifications (B, C)

  1. The bundles of kinetochore microtubules that tether chromosomes to the pole are clearly seen.

  2. High magnification and high resolution show kinetochore microtubule bundles inserted into individual sister kinetochores at the centromere region of a chromosome.

  3. A single centriole of the pair at the center of the centrosome at the spindle pole is seen in focus. From: Skibbens, R. V., V. P. Skeen and E.
